There’s something about the beginning of a new academic year that seems to reach far beyond the school gates.
Children appear in impossibly shiny shoes. New pencil cases are full.
Parents wave goodbye – some tearfully, some perhaps with a little more enthusiasm after six weeks of summer holidays.
And somehow the rest of us feel it too.
September has always carried a sense of possibility.
People return from holidays. Conversations restart. Diaries fill up. Projects gather momentum. Ideas that have been sitting in the background for weeks suddenly feel ready to go. Perhaps it’s years of being conditioned by school terms, but September still makes us want to buy a new notebook, clear the desk and begin again.
January may have the resolutions.
We think September has the optimism.
Fresh page. Sharp pencil. Anything could happen.
